Periodontal disease is the most common infectious disease of our companion animals. If left untreated, it can lead to oral pain, bad breath, tooth loss, and even systemic disease.

Veterinary dental care is one of the most important services provided at our clinic. Every exam includes a thorough dental evaluation. Dental cleanings, restorations and possible extractions are recommended for all animals with periodontal disease, and as a preventative measure for animals with warning signs.

Many clients ask if general anesthesia is necessary to clean an animals teeth.  Unfortunately, the only way to properly clean the teeth, especially below the gum line, is with general anesthesia.  We take every precaution to insure the health and safety of your pet using preanesthetic blood testing, IV fluids, the most advanced anesthetic agents available, precise monitoring, and individual attention devoted to every patient.  Dr. Vickers will also be in contact with you during the procedure if anything additional is recommended or required.
